What is Segment Anything?
The Segment Anything Model (SAM) proposed by Meta recently has broken through the boundaries of segmentation, greatly promoting the development of fundamental computer vision models. SAM is a prompting model that has trained over a billion masks on 11 million images, achieving powerful zero-shot generalization. Many researchers believe that "this is the CV's GPT-3 moment, as SAM has learned general concepts of objects, even unknown objects, unfamiliar scenes (such as underwater, cell microscopes), and blurred situations," and has demonstrated its tremendous potential as a fundamental CV model.

Segment Anything Model (SAM) as the object segmentation model (SAM) and dataset (SA-1B) launched by Facebook, allows for segmentation of everything. Based on NLP concepts, SAM introduces the concept of prompt interaction, which returns effective masks through prompts such as points, boxes, etc., suitable for downstream tasks.
How to use Segment Anything Model (SAM)
Segment Anything (SA) project: A new image segmentation task, model, and dataset. Using our efficient model in the data collection loop, we have established the largest segmentation dataset to date, with over a billion masks on 11 million licensed and privacy-respecting images. The model is designed and trained to be promptable, allowing it toperform zero-shot transfer to new image distributions and tasks. We have evaluated its capabilities in many tasks and found its zero-shot performance impressive, often comparable to, if not better than, previous fully supervised results. We are releasing the Segment Anything Model (SAM) and the corresponding dataset (SA-1B), which includes one billion masks and 11 million images, to promote research in fundamental computer vision models.
Segment Anything leverages the Prompt concept from NLP tasks, providing prompts to quickly segment any target in image segmentation tasks. Prompts can be sets of points for foreground/background, rough boxes or masks, any form of text, or any information indicating what needs to be segmented in the image. The input to this task is the original image and some prompts, and the output is the mask information of different targets in the image.
