ScopusIntroduction
As previously introduced by 4ai.topWeb of ScienceLike Web of Science, Scopus is also a leading global literature database and citation analysis tool. Developed and maintained by Elsevier (Elsevier), it contains academic journal articles, conference papers, patents, and other literature resources from various disciplines. Scopus offers a wide range of search functions, enabling users to quickly access academic research achievements worldwide. Scopus not only provides literature search services but also helps users evaluate and track the influence of research achievements through citation analysis functions. Users can view the number of citations for an article, the list of literature citing the article, and related metrics such as h-index, thereby understanding the academic influence and citation status of a research. In addition, Scopus also provides some other functions such as author statistics, institutional statistics, and thematic analysis, helping users to carry out scientific research evaluation, find partners, and track field dynamics. Scopus has a wide range of data sources and high-quality data, widely used by researchers.

Scopus is a newnavigation tool, covering the most extensive collection of scientific and medical literature abstracts, references, and indexes in the world. In fact, SCOPUS is not a specific journal or magazine, like SCI, it also belongs tosearch tools. It covers the most extensive collection of scientific and medical literature abstracts, references, and indexes. The maincollection fields are: medicine, agriculture and biology, physics, engineering, sociology, economics, business and management, life sciences, chemistry, mathematics, earth and environmental sciences, psychology, art and humanities. It isthe world's largest abstract and citation database.Scopus includes literature from many famous journals, such as Elsevier, Kluwer, Institution of Electrical Engineers, Springer, Nature, etc. What is particularly important is that Scopus also widely includes important Chinese journals, such as "Journal of Computer Science", "Journal of Mechanics", "Chinese Physics Letters", "Chinese Medical Journal", and many other high-quality journals.Scopus not only provides users with citation information of the included articles but also directly integrates web and patent searches from a simple and clear interface
.
Scopus's search results comprehensively integrate scientific research network information, including over400 million academic web pages, 39 million patent information from 3patent organizations, and various selected resources. It is the core product of Elsevier Company. Among the journals it includes, 88% are professional journals (Peer Review) reviewed by industry experts.Different from the simple indicators (only division and impact factor) of SCI/SSCI, SCOPUS uses multiple indicators. Its database provides many different types of indicators for users to evaluate the influence and academic output of literature, journals, and researchers from different perspectives.
What is the Scopus database?
Scopus database is a globally renowned abstract and index database
Literature types: It covers important literature resources such as journals, conferences, books, and patents.
Subject scope: It involves fields of natural sciences, medicine, social sciences, and life sciences.
Time range: The literature can be traced back to as early as 1788.
Scientific research timeliness: About 12,000 scientific and technological literature updates daily.
Open access: Over 20 million open access literature, 6,100 active gold OA journals.
Based in China: Includes 1,140 high-quality Chinese mainland journals, of which about 50% are Chinese journals, and 760 journals are exclusively included in Scopus.
Two
Comprehensive literature search (covering the entire field of natural sciences, medicine, social sciences, and life sciences); supports one-click full-text download across databases.
Three Cross-retrieval of patents, covering up to 39 million patent information from five patent offices (United States Patent Office, European Patent Office, Japan Patent Office, World Intellectual Property Organization, British Intellectual Property Office).
Institutional database - supports institutional search and analysis functions (covering universities, government agencies, research institutions, corporate R&D, etc.); for each institution, statistics are made of the literature information of the institution (total number of publications, total number of citations), main authors, the proportion of publications in various fields, journal sources, patent information, etc.
Four
Author database - supports author search and analysis functions; for each author, statistics are made of their literature information (total number of publications, total number of citations), h-index, citation overview (can choose self-citation, or co-author citation), and the personal literature output analysis chart of the author (one-click generation).
Scopus's subject classification system covers
27 subject fields
, which are divided into four major categories:
Life sciences, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine.
For example: medicine, agriculture and biology, physics, engineering, sociology, economics, business and management, life sciences, chemistry, mathematics, earth and environmental sciences, psychology, art and humanities, etc.
And like EI citation index, Scopus includes two types of articles: Conference search CA
(Conference article), Journal search JA (Journal article). Or Ternary lithium battery
Safety Or thermal runaway Or leakage Or explosion Or fire
Step three, place the above three search terms in the search box to limit the search to the "Title, Abstract, Keywords" fields, combining them with "AND". As shown in the figure below, click "Search" to directly view the search results.
Generally, when searching for literature on a specific topic, we use the command line on the advanced search page for convenience in adjusting search terms and strategies.
Click on "Advanced Literature Search" to directly jump to the advanced search interface. Scopus will generate command codes directly based on the search terms from the basic search page, where "TITLE-ABS-KEY" represents the "Title, Abstract, Keywords" field.
In the advanced search interface, you can adjust the range of search fields as needed, which is more flexible than the basic search. The right side of the page has matching tips for search fields and codes, which can facilitate direct search and use.
Click "Search" to get the following search results. The page defaults to displaying literature search results, including papers, conferences, books, etc. We can also click to view the search results for "Patents", "Supplementary Literature", and "Research Data".
This article takes the literature search results as an example. A total of 3046 documents were retrieved under this topic. The left side of the page is the filtering area, which can further limit the scope of literature, such as restricting the publication year, subject category, and literature type. The right side has the "Analysis Results" function, which can analyze the publication trends, author rankings, institutional rankings, distribution of literature types, and subject distribution.
Of course, you can also export the citation information, bibliographic information, keywords, etc. of these documents for further analysis and research. Scopus can export up to 20,000 records at one time.
In the Scopus search results page, literature marked with "Open Access" can be directly viewed, but not all literature has full text. We can check the "Open Access" category in the left-side filtering area to quickly find literature that is open access.
Scopus database not only allows for subject searches but can also directly search for all papers from a specific institution or quickly find experts and scholars in a specific field. These functions will be introduced one by one in the subsequent sections. Readers interested can continue to follow.
