Replit is a browser-based cloud collaboration development platform for building development environments, real-time collaboration, and hosting web applications. Replit offers services to create HTML static websites and PHP, SQLite dynamic website projects, and automatically generates a free HTTPS three-level domain (formatted as: project.username.repl.co).

How is Replit?

Replit was founded in San Francisco, USA, by two programmers and one designer seven years ago, with one of the programmers having worked at Yahoo and Facebook.

Replit itself is aonline integrated development environmentthat supports over 50 programming languages.

It helps beginners avoid complex environment deployment and dive into coding directly; it's also suitable for experienced developers for collaborative programming, building and testing various applications. In just a few years, Replit has accumulated millions of users, and last October, it launched its own AI-assisted programming tool, Ghostwriter.

Ghostwriter supports 16 languages, performs best in JavaScript and Python, and can automatically complete code, explain code without comments, and refactor code in various ways (such as converting iteration to recursion).

Of course, it's not free; it requires a monthly payment of $10 or 1000 Cycles (virtual tokens released by the Replit platform).

According to official statistics, Ghostwriter has helped developers on the Replit platform generateover 30% of the code— this percentage is not very different from GitHub Copilot, which is 46%.

Just this Tuesday, Replit held its first Developer Day event.

At the event, it announced its coding large modelreplit-code-v1-3b.

replit-code-v1-3b has 2.7 billion parameters, trained on 525 billion code tokens, and can recognize 20 languages.

It is said to have very low latency,being at the bottom in terms of parameter quantity,the fine-tuned version has overall performance that is basically higher than that of similar models, including Codex, LLaMa, CodeGeeX, and others.

The headquarters of 'Replit' is located in San Francisco, founded by programmers Amjad Masad, Faris Masad, and designer Haya Odeh in 2016. Before starting the business, Amjad Masad held engineering positions at Yahoo and Facebook, establishing several software development tools.

'Replit' provides developers with an online collaborative integrated development environment (IDE) that supports programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Go, C++, and more. Through 'Replit', users can share workspaces with others, view document edits in real-time, leave messages, and debug code together. In addition, users can share projects in the community, seek help, or download tutorials and templates.

The company's most important feature is "Ghostwriter," an AI model trained on publicly available code, similar to GitHub's Copilot, which can combine user input and account information to write code, provide suggestions, and explain code in a language familiar to developers.
