What is palm2?

PaLM 2 is the latest language model with enhanced multilingual, reasoning, and programming capabilitiesPaLM 2 is a large model released by Google to compete with GPT-4! The PaLM 2 model offers four versions of different sizes, from small to large: Gecko, Otter, Bison, and Unicorn, making it easier to deploy for various use cases. The lightweight Gecko model can run on mobile devices, is very fast, and can run excellent interactive applications on the device without an internet connection.

palm2 advantages

  • MultilingualismPaLM 2 has been trained on multilingual text to a deeper extent, covering over 100 languages. This significantly enhances its ability to understand, generate, and translate subtle texts in various languages, including idioms, poetry, and riddles – a challenging problem. PaLM 2 also passes advanced language proficiency exams at the "mastery" level.
  • ReasoningPaLM 2's extensive dataset includes scientific papers and web pages containing mathematical expressions. Therefore, it demonstrates improved abilities in logic, common-sense reasoning, and mathematics.
  • ProgrammingPaLM 2 has been pre-trained on a large dataset of publicly available source code. This means it performs well in popular programming languages like Python and JavaScript, but can also generate professional code in languages like Prolog, Fortran, and Verilog.

Google launches PaLM 2, performance surpasses GPT-4, Bard upgrades to counter ChatGPT

Google PaLM 2 details revealed: 3.6 trillion tokens, 34 billion parameters

OpenAI's GPT-4 has been widely recognized as the most powerful language model in the world.
How to compete with GPT-4? Google's answer is PaLM 2.

PaLM (Pathways Language Model) is a large language model, or LLM, similar to the GPT series created by OpenAI or Meta's LLaMA series models. Google first announced the launch of PaLM in April 2022, with over 540 billion training parameters. Like other LLMs, PaLM is a flexible system capable of performing various text generation and editing tasks. For example, you can train PaLM to be a conversational chatbot like ChatGPT, or you can use it for tasks like summarizing text or writing code. (This is similar to the features Google also announced for its Workspace applications, such as Google Docs and Gmail.)

In the related paper, Google engineers claim that PaLM 2's language capabilities are "sufficient to teach this language" due to the prevalence of non-English text in its training data.
PaLM 2 includes four models with different parameters, including Gecko, Otter, Bison, and Unicorn, and has been fine-tuned on specific domain data to perform certain tasks for enterprise clients.
