What is Imagen?
Imagen AI is a text-to-image diffusion model developed by the Google Research Brain Team in 2022. It boasts unprecedented realism and deep language understanding capabilities. Built on the large Transformer language model's ability to understand text, Imagen AI also leverages the advantages of diffusion models in high-fidelity image generation. In short, Imagen is an AI system that can create realistic images based on input text.

How is Imagen?
Google's Imagen AI system is an advanced model that can convert natural text into images, similar to OpenAI's DALL-E 2. However, Google has not yet opened the full version of the text-to-image AI model to the public. But the situation is changing, at least to some extent. Google has announced that it will add an incomplete version of Imagen to its AI Test Kitchen app.
The AI Test Kitchen was released earlier this year and offers a test version of some of Google's AI technologies. Google will add Imagen to the app, but with some limitations. Users can interact with Imagen in two ways, known as "Urban Dreamer" and "Swing."
In "Urban Dreamer," users can create a city and choose their desired theme. For example, if you want to create a "Cyberpunk City," Imagen's "Urban Dreamer" will create architectural models around the "Cyberpunk" theme. These designs look similar to isometric models, as The Verge pointed out, "It looks a bit like what you see in a SimCity game."
Regarding the "Swing" feature, it allows users to create a small monster. Users can choose the material of the monster, such as clay, felt, or rubber, and dress it in clothes of their choice. Imagen will create the corresponding monster based on the user's description, allowing users to name and interact with it. This feature has some limitations, as users cannot create any monster they want, but all monsters in "Swing" share some design language. Like DALL-E's public test version, the degree of interaction with Imagen is also limited.
Google has not detailed what these limitations are due to the software's inherent characteristics, but they are crucial for the subsequent debugging of Imagen. The purpose of AI Test Kitchen is to gather user feedback to help Google identify issues in AI technology, and user interaction with the system is also part of the test.
As artificial intelligence technology becomes increasingly complex and widespread, the associated risks are also growing. When restrictions and freedoms are fully open, a small number of users may abuse this technology. For companies like Google, user abuse of its products could have serious consequences, even potentially causing significant harm to other users or Google itself in extreme cases.
Without a doubt, Imagen is one of the most advanced AI models. However, with great power comes great responsibility. It is unclear when, if ever, Imagen will become a fully public commercial product. Nonetheless, users can currently test the experience through the "Urban Dreamer" and "Swing" features. AI Test Kitchen is available for free download and use on Android and iOS platforms.
