What is Dream Studio?
DreamStudio is an AI drawing tool based on the Stable Diffusion model, where you can generate the desired images with just simple descriptions! DreamStudio is developed byStability AIand is a text-to-image diffusion (CLIP) model that can generate high-quality and highly accurate images based on given text prompts, with the fastest generation time of just a few seconds.

Its underlying technology is based onStable Diffusion. As the latest generation of text-image diffusion generator, the DreamStudio beta version has a clean and organized interface, clear function categories, and an easily identifiable panel for setting image generation parameters, offering a better user experience than the previous code-based interface of Disco Diffusion. Recently, DreamStudio has upgraded to SDXL, achieving more detailed images and compositions than its predecessor Stable Diffusion 2.1, and can create descriptive images with shorter prompts. So far, DreamStudio's image generation quality is not inferior to Midjourney 5.1.
Removing the exclusive brand of DreamStudio; All online API calls have been replaced by a plugin system, allowing users to easily switch backends; Removing exclusive account features of Stability, such as billing, API key management, etc.
DreamStudio was initially an animation studio for Disco Diffusion, shifting its focus to image generation with the release of Stable Diffusion. Inspired by the current trend of dialogue models, Stability AI launched the open-source LLM StableVicuna in April. The open-source version of DreamStudio, StableStudio, will be combined with StableVicuna to launch a chat interface.
DreamStudio Operation Instructions
1. Image Guidance: Drawing with an Image
Following the official recommended tutorial, users can upload an image to the editor, set the influence weight of the original image on the final image, and then input text prompts to start image rendering, generating one or more new images based on the original image.
Below is the new editor interface for drawing with an image:
- Click the "Upload Image" button to upload an image, adjust the influence weight of the original image on the new image through "Image Strength", with smaller values indicating less influence.
- In the text box below, input your prompts for the new image and adjust the image size, accuracy, precision, and generation quantity on the right.
- Click the "Dream" button on the right side of the text box to generate the new image. Click the download icon in the center of the image to save it.
2. Inpainting and Outpainting
Recall that when we introduced DALLE 2 in April, we mentioned that it could modify images based on text prompts. Now, DreamStudio's Inpainting and Outpainting allows us to experience this process firsthand.
After uploading an image, four icons will be displayed on the left side of the image, from top to bottom, representing:
- Move Tool: Used to move the image position, or change the size or crop the image by dragging.
- Brush Tool: Used to erase parts of the image that need to be modified. The brush size, edge hardness, and opacity can be adjusted. The painted area will become a transparent background, and new content can be generated based on the text.
- Eraser Tool: If the brush painting is incorrect, the eraser tool can be used to fix it. The eraser tool can also adjust parameters like the brush tool.
- Two-way Arrow Button: Click to view the original state of the image before it was painted. Click the move tool to exit this mode.
3. DreamStudio Image Generation
The basic method to generate images with DreamStudio is: first, set parameters such as image width, height, text-image similarity, rendering steps, and generation quantity in the right-hand panel; then, in the lower text
To create accurate and high-quality images with AI image generators, it is crucial to input appropriate and accurate text prompts. To help users learn how to fill in suitable prompts, Dream Studio provides an introductory guide in the "Prompt Guide" on the left-hand column, strongly recommending that users read it carefully before inputting prompts. Here are some brief summaries:
- Avoid entering simple words (raw prompt) such as "Panda" (Panda) or "A warrior" (Warrior). The generated images may lack beauty and artistic value.
- Use style prompts to add more artistic value to the image. Add keywords related to artistic styles in the prompts, such as "Realistic" (Realistic), "Oil painting" (Oil painting), "Pencil drawing" (Pencil drawing), "Concept art" (Concept Art), etc. Additionally, there are various expressions for realistic style prompts, such as "[a photo of + raw prompt]", "[a photograph of + raw prompt]", "[raw prompt, hyperrealistic]", "[raw prompt, realistic]".
- Using the names of artists can make the style more distinctive or consistent. For example, to express abstract art, you can use "[made by Pablo Picasso]" or "[raw prompt, Picasso]". You can also input the names of multiple artists at the same time, making the effect more interesting.
- Finally, add adjectives. Add adjectives at the end of the text to make the image more in line with your expectations. For example, if you want realistic lighting effects, you can add "Unreal Engine"; if you want to show fine details, you can add "4K" or "8K"; if you want more artistic value, you can add "trending on artstation" and other words.
By following these tips, you can better guide Dream Studio to generate images that meet your expectations. Keep trying different combinations of prompts and adjectives, unleash your creativity, and create stunning artworks. Dream Studio will become a powerful tool for your creative realization, bringing endless artistic exploration.
