What is AIGC-X?
AIGC-X, jointly launched by the National Key Laboratory of Content Cognition, University of Science and Technology of China, and the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center's Institute of Artificial Intelligence, is an AI-generated content detection tool that can quickly distinguish between machine-generated and human-generated content. The breakthrough in AIGC technology will greatly promote the comprehensive transformation of artificial intelligence in the content field. However, the misuse of AIGC in tasks such as false information, academic fraud, and phishing has seriously hindered the application of new technology in the media and education fields.

Origin of AIGC-X
AIGC-X is an important achievement in the laboratory's research on AI self-governance mechanisms and an initial attempt to explore how to solve AIGC security issues from a technical perspective. By combining content recognition and content tracing technologies, AIGC-X can effectively promote the development of AI risk management, security review, and evaluation technologies, providing technical solutions and support for establishing a secure andtrustworthy AIGC ecosystem.
In recent years, with the rapid development of AI-generated content (AIGC) technology, from AI painting, AI composition, to virtual humans, and the recently popular ChatGPT, the way content is produced has undergone a huge transformation. In this ever-growing internet content world, finding a clear criterion to distinguish reality from illusion and truth from falsity has become a key factor for the long-term healthy development of the industry.
To meet this challenge, the National Key Laboratory of Content Cognition of the People's Daily, the University of Science and Technology of China, and the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center's Institute of Artificial Intelligence have jointly launched China's first AI-generated content detection tool - AIGC-X. The tool is now officially open for public testing across the entire network.
How is AIGC-X?
According to the introduction, AIGC-X can quickly differentiate between machine-generated text and human-generated text, with an accuracy rate of over 90% for Chinese text detection.
Zhang Yongdong, Chief Scientist of the National Key Laboratory of Content Cognition of the People's Daily, said that due to the wide range of application scenarios of AIGC technologies such as ChatGPT in dialogue consultation, article writing, and content polishing, this technology has entered a new stage of development. However, risks and challenges such as ethical norms, content infringement, and information fraud cannot be ignored, and it is urgent to launch targeted detection products to enhance the regulatory and governance technology capabilities for the new paradigm of content production.
He introduced that AIGC-X adopts an artificial intelligence framework with algorithmic fusion and knowledge-driven, capturing implicit features such as confusion and emergent frequency through deep modeling. AIGC-X can detect fake news, content plagiarism, and spam generated by AI technology, with broad application prospects, applicable to content security and content risk control fields such as content copyright, phishing, false information, and academic fraud. In the future, AIGC-X will also be expanded into a general intelligent recognition model for text, images, and even videos generated by artificial intelligence.
"Proper guidance and regulation of AIGC is imperative," emphasized Jin Guoguang, a researcher at the National Key Laboratory of Content Cognition of the People's Daily. He said, "We must pay attention to preventing the abuse of AIGC in gray areas such as false information, academic fraud, and phishing. He said, "AIGC-X will promote the development of AI risk management and security evaluation technologies, providing technical support for establishing a secure and controllable AIGC ecosystem."
It was introduced that before the launch of AIGC-X, the National Key Laboratory of Content Cognition of the People's Daily had launched two content risk control systems based on artificial intelligence, "Zhi Xiaozhu" and "Bai Ze," and they have been applied in more than a hundred institutions. People's Daily Information Technology Co., Ltd., focusing on content risk control business, has developed the "Capture AIGC" product and released it through the "People's Review" WeChat official account.
According to the data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the scale of China's AI core industry has now exceeded 4 trillion yuan, with the number of enterprises approaching 4,000, driving the scale of related industries to exceed several trillion yuan, and will continue to grow rapidly. Industry experts predict that as a new model of deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy, AIGC will play an important role in industrial innovation and development.
Zhang Yongdong said, "AIGC-X is not a static technology but one that continues to develop with the development of AIGC." Currently, limited by time and resources, AIGC-X still needs improvement in supporting unconventional issues and scenarios. For example, AIGC-X currently only supports the detection of Chinese content, and support for English needs to be improved. In addition, it is necessary to further improve the detection capabilities for images, audio and video content, to support the detection of full media content, and to provide guarantees for the healthy development of AIGC.
